Morning Snack

At Purple Crayon, we serve our children a yummy nutritious breakfast everyday.

They enjoy the cereal, yogurt, and milk that we provide for them.

Meeting Time

Meeting time is when the children group together as one community and learn from not only their teachers, but each other. They tell their names, sing songs, go over the calendar, talk about the weather, and learn about new ideas from the theme they are studying! Children also begin to develop essential skills such as listening, paying attention, and taking turns during meeting time.

Center Time

Children love nothing more than playing, which is why they enjoy their center time. We encourage children to socialize during this time and they can choose to play in the center of their liking. Some children may prefer the music center, others may enjoy playing with table toys and manipulatives, while others gravitate towards the dramatic play area. No matter which center they choose, they are actively learning new things as they play and have fun with the purposefully selected toys in each center.

Daily Activities

There are also other large group activities that occur throughout the day which include the mini lesson, art, and story time! The mini lesson is a structured group activity that focuses on math, literacy, or scientific thinking skills. In arts and crafts, the children work on hands-on activities to explore their creativity and artistic skills while fine tuning their fine motor skills. Story time is one of the activities the children also quite fond of; they sit down, relax, and enter a world of imagination (not to mention they are developing literacy skills without even realizing).

Gross Motor Activities

It’s time to get our muscles moving! Physical movement is very paramount to a child’s development. This is the time children get to move their bodies and exercise their muscles. Studies have shown young children need to be on the move to get their brains pumping. Whether it is a walk around the neighborhood, shaking their sillies out to music, running around in our outdoor play area, or water play (in the summertime), children will enjoy moving around, being active and having fun while getting those brain gears in motion!

Rest Time

Now that our tummies are full, it is the best time to replenish our energy with a cozy nap.

Meeting Time

During meeting time, we review what we have been learning throughout the month along with a discussion of the calendar and weather. We also use this time to talk about what is to come for the remainder of the day or introduce a new skill that will be worked on during the day.

Center Time

Time to play and explore! More active play time stimulates a child’s curiosity and makes them excited to learn about new things.

Daily Activities

This is when we may have our mini lesson, a Chinese lesson, do an art and craft or have story time! The children may either listen to a story about an old lady who swallowed fly, make paintings with the colors of the rainbow, learn some useful Chinese or watch as ingredients are mixed together to make a new sensory toy for the room (Playdough)!
